Vasseur & Muller

A wonderful 1925-30 French art deco lamp in wrought iron of excellent quality. The forged base holds a nice colored shade in mottled glass produced by Muller freres. It is signed in acid Muller fres Luneville.
The lamp was made by Marcel Vasseur a blacksmith who had like E.Brandt and R.Subes a large workshop in Paris making pieces both on command as for his own outlet. Vasseur was represented at the prestigious 1925 art décorative exhibit in Paris. The old catalogs show Marcel Vasseur used colored glass paste shades by Daum Muller and Schneider as well as shades in alabaster or moulded-pressed glass Muller freres ones. The base is unsigned like most Vasseur pieces. We can sometimes see Vasseur bases or chandelier mounts signed FAG. In 1925 the designer Maurice Dufresne head of the design department La Maitrise of the large Galeries Lafayette invited Vasseur to sell his lamps in Lafayette. And those pieces were signed FAG (for Feronnerie d'Art des Galleries).

The lamp is in very good condition. No chips or cracks. The iron has a deep-brown patina and a nice egg gloss appearance. The lamp is 27,5 cm high (10,83"). And the shade has a diameter of 13,3 cm (5,24 inches).
It is wired with new cloth covered twisted cord and is equipped with an American candelabra base socket and US 2-prong plug. For European countries I will place a E14 socket.
