CHARLES SCHNEIDER

A wonderful French art deco hanging fixture in wrought iron with a nice Schneider Le Verre Français shade in mottled coloured cameo glass. Made in the 1920s. This model is called Aubépines (Hawthorns). Schneider made vases table lamps and chandeliers with this hawthorn pattern. Which he designed between 1919 and 1922. I show a picture of a page from the book on Schneider by Joulin and Maier.

The beautiful Aubépines bowl is held by the original Schneider fixture in wrought iron. Schneider employed a blacksmith and had his own forge on his compound in Epinay France. Here wrought iron mounts for vases were made as well as fixtures for nightlamps perfume burners and chandeliers. The typical shape of the Schneider forged iron pieces is easy to recognize.

The bowl is signed with the usual Berlingot sign. A berlingot is one of the oldest traditional hard sweets from France in the colors of the French flag that inspired Schneider for this signature in the shape of a small coloured banner, see last picture.

The pendant has a total height of 60 cm high (23-5/8") and the glass bowl has a diameter of 40,5 cm (15-15/16"). It's a nice height for high ceilings. If your ceiling isn't that high I can easily shorten the fixture for you. The shade is without chips or cracks and the iron mount has a nice deep-brown patina. It is rewired with an American standard socket. For other countries I can place a E27 one for European light bulbs.
