A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST...

On the forest floor, hidden within the heartwood of old pine and hemlock knots, rest the wood spirits. Each knot, graying with age and sometimes covered with moss, has its own set of unique features and characteristics. The job of the artist is only to remove enough of the old covering to allow the face to emerge.

During the past few years, I have noticed a scarcity of those old knots. With this in mind, I decided to present a series of limited-edition reproductions featuring the “woodland spirits”. Each piece presented is an exact reproduction of the original woodcarving, cast in resin and pecan shell dust, giving them the warmth and weight of wood. Each edition will be limited to 2,500 pieces, and every piece is painted, numbered in sequence, and hand signed by me. The faces are colored with stains and acrylic washes meticulously applied by hand, giving each face its own unique character.
