Robj

A rare 1925-30 incense burner by Robj the Paris France based  company of Jean Born and his business partner Lucien Willmetz. They had their store at 3 Cite d’Hauteville in Paris. Robj did not design or produce it own products yet commissioned designers to design items for them and had them produced by the best craftsmen of the era.
A shade in coloured glass paste rests on a forged iron base in a nice deep-brown patina. Both base and shade are signed Robj Paris.

The piece is 12.7 cm (5 inches) high and the base has a diameter of 9 cm. It is in very condition. Some minimal chips on the rim, non disturbing and hidden by the wrought iron mount. It's wired with a European E14 socket. For the US or japan I will wire it with an American candelabra base one and 2-prong plug.

ROBJ was an anagram of Jean Born the founder of the company in 1908. After the first worldwar Jean Born together with his business partner Lucien Willemetz had a shop at 3 cité d’Hauteville in Paris selling porcelain figurines and other objects advertised as the ‘Bibelots de Robj’ - robj trinkets.  Late 20s Robj opened a second shop at 32 rue de Paradis which later moved to number 51 in the same street. The company commissioned many young designers to design items for their shop. Jean Born died in a car crash in 1922 after which Willemetz continued the company on his own. In the 20s Robj was very popular and a commercial success. The company closed in 1931.Nowadays especialy Robj incense burners and table lamps are sought after collectibles.
