In 1994 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings on behalf of Guernsey the Royal Mint released a Limited Issue £2 Two Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver.

The reverse design is by Dutch sculptor and medallist Willem Vis, features Allied troops disembarking from an amphibious landing craft into the chill waters of Normandy beach.

Weighed down by equipment and holding their rifles high they wade towards the shore. Above appears a cameo portrait of Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of the day.

The obverse features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II portrait by Raphael Maklouf

These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.

This coin is in mint uncirculated condition and comes encapsulated with a Certificate of Authenticity from the Royal Mint (see photographs).

When buying this coin from any source it is important that it has the Certificate of Authenticity.  The reason is that this coin was also minted in cupra-nickel and the two coins seem identical.
