Beautifully crafted smaller sized mahogany three-drawer chest or commode. Made in Sweden in the 19th century, it exhibits the restraint usually found in the Gustavian style. The Swedes looked to the French for design inspiration, but emulated the luxurious Empire style popular in France with much simpler materials and execution. This piece is mahogany however, which means it was made for a person with enough money to pay for that material. It is marked, as seen in the pictures.
The top is edged with a gold painted strip of wood. The drawers have brass edging, trim, hardware and caps on the feet. All three drawers have working locks, which are stamped with the name of the Swedish manufacturer. The reeding on the angled corners is painted gold as well. The secondary wood on the drawers and the case is pine.
In exceptional antique condition. The top has been professionally restored. The finish is in excellent condition overall - no fading. The top is mint, some very minor wear to the body but all has been touched up to keep most all of the original condition. The interiors of the drawers are immaculate.
Measurements: 32.5" wide, 18.25" deep and 36.5" tall.
