France/Guadeloupe - Brass 28mm. medalet for Armand Barbes, on his election as deputy of the Aude department in 1848.
Barbes was a native of Pointe à Pitre, Guadeloupe in 1809. His parent emigrated to France in 1815 where he studied and was a participant in political affairs and revolutionary movement. He was twice sentenced to prison but finally amnistied in 1854 and ended his life in the Netherlands in 1870. Lovely lustrous UNC. condition and especially scarce this choice.
