This 8 sided pitcher is absolutely spectacular and looks even better than as photographed.  Dating to 1840, this is one of the finest raised relief pitchers I have ever seen.  Each of the 8 tapered panels around the side has a finely molded lattice with grape clusters and leaves below the rim.  Measuring 8 ¼” to the top of the handle, this pitcher is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs.  This pitcher was made in England, the applied cartouche made from white clay on the base is impressed “PUBLISHED BY / E. JONES / COBRIDGE / JULY 1, 1840. / BASKET. 24”.   The term “Published by” refers to the Sculpture Act of 1797 giving potters’ exclusive rights to their creative pottery designs.  This is one of the finest pitchers you will ever have the opportunity to own.
