Etablissement Jean Gauthier

A rare pair of large French art deco wall sconces made around 1930. Nickel plated solid brass or bronze hold slip shades by EJG (Etablissement Jean Gauthier) in frosted molded-pressed glass. The shades were acid frosted and then polished by hand to create glossy highlights. A beautiful larger and rare model slip shade. Both are signed EJG 1078 (for Etablissement Jean Gauthier). The sconces are 34 cm high (13,4") and 24,7 cm wide (9,7 inches). They project 20 cm from the wall (7-7/8"). They are in excellent condition. I have re-nickeled and patinated the mounts. The lights come rewired. For the States Canada or Japan I placed US candelabra base sockets. For European countries I will place E14 ones.

Free worldwide shipping. The sconces will be shipped with full insurance by priority mail.

Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first worldwar Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in moulded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J.Gauthier based on the streetname of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
