Here we have an extremely rare signed IMPERIAL STONE hunt pitcher.  This pitcher form is known as “Classic” and is characterized by clean graceful lines and a three-lobed rim forming the spout.  This pitcher is a variant of the Turner raised relief Hunt pitcher.  In addition to the same molded horses, riders, dogs, trees and fluted bottom of the pitcher IMPERIAL STONE added a white sprigged design below the rim and to the top of the handle.  The outside of the pitcher is unglazed with the inside being glazed so that the contents aren’t absorbed into the clay.  The underside of the base has an applied white circular pad impressed with “IMPERIAL STONE” around the model number “14”.  The pitcher is buff in color not yellow.  Measuring 7 ¾” in height, the pitcher is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs.  This pitcher rings when you tap the rim.  Little is known about the potter who marked their pieces IMPERIAL STONE other than by the limited production of their pottery during the early 1800s. Photos and a description of this pitcher can be found in Relief-Moulded Jugs 1820 -1900 by R. K. Henrywood on page 52.  This is an extremely rare museum quality early pitcher for the advanced collector.  You may never see another pitcher like this available for purchase.
