The grand visual poem achieved by Claude Estèbe is a reading of our contemporary world through it’s idols . Desire, capitalism, death... many of the objects he examines close-up are copies, some of shoddy execution. Estèbe grew attached to the flawed figurines, whose beauty he has the gift of unveiling. Behind the looking-glass image of heroic beauty hides another world, that of fantasy.

Claude Estebe is an artist of embodiment. It’s not about a spirit which becomes body, but rather of an object which encounters the desire of the body. The creation of an imaginary world often springs from the observation of very concrete things. The institutionalisation of toys rendered “invisible” these objects which condense our desires and our fears from infancy. It took the work of the artist and the scientist to reveal this magical empire. In this sense, the artistic approach forged by his scientific culture places Claude Estèbe in the heritage of Lewis Carrol.”
