Early 20th Century Chinese brass tea samovar.

Samovar consists of 2 chambers. The double handled bottom chamber which features an attractive open fretwork design around its body is a warming compartment designed to hold coals to heat water in the upper compartment. Samovar also features double bail carrying handles and incised spigot. Other examples from the same period feature a lid atop the upper chamber but here we observe 2 custom-fit brass tea bowls instead.

CONDITION REPORT

Brass has not been polished. No dents observed on the body although there are several small random tarnish marks and a very light scratch on one side of the upper chamber which should be easy to buff out. There would originally have been a decorative hasp latch hook either side to lock the upper and lower chambers together during the boiling process. Both hooks are missing but the decorative plates are intact and visible in the photographs. Top compartment still sits squarely and securely upon base. One of the tea bowls is slightly misshapen. Signs of age observed inside chambers. Base is missing one protective foot pad. Still a beautiful piece which displays well as depicted.
