Alexander Hamilton Institute Modern Business Course and Service (Mail Order) Book Series

Published by Alexander Hamilton Institute, New York 1917 (problems and lectures) and 1919 (talks)

Over the course of 24 months, the Alexander Hamilton Institute mailed a set of paperbound booklets titled "Modern Business" to aspiring businessmen and women.  These mailings were sent to a salesman in St. Louis.

In total, the series consisted of 96 booklets in three unique series:
  • "Talk", mailed semi-monthly for a total of 48 booklets -- in my 23 listings, there are 40 of the 48 booklets (missing Nos. 1, 2, 6, 20, 37, 38, 47, 48)
  • "Lecture", mailed monthly for a total of 24 booklets -- in my 23 listings, there are 21 of the 24 booklets (missing Nos. 1, 19, 24)
  • "Problem", mailed monthly for a total of 24 booklets -- in my 23 listings, there are 19 of the 24 booklets (missing Nos. 1, 3, 10, 19, 24)

The various booklets vary in length with an average of 15- 20 pages. These books are a great artifact from the correspondence course era and are a rare find, especially in this exceptional condition.

20 of the 22 mailing envelopes are franked with a 1c or 2c 1916 Imperforate issue (Scott 481 or 482) with Schermack Type III perforations and a "New York N.Y." precancel. All 22 envelopes are 8 x 5.5 in., brown, have a printed return address at top left, and are addressed to Mr. Willie Deubal in St. Louis, Missouri (varying street addresses)
