Eugen Julius Theodor Hultzsch (29 March 1857 – 16 January 1927) was a German Indologist and epigraphist who is known for his work in deciphering inscriptions written in Sanskrit in India. He was born in Dresden Germany on 29 March 1857, and studied Oriental languages in college. After graduation, he moved to Vienna where his passion for Sanskrit began. In 1886, he moved to and settled in India, where he was employed by the Archaeological Survey of India as the first Chief Epigraphist to the Government of Madras. He resigned and left India in 1903.
