Omega-3 fatty acids may help to:
Lower blood pressure
Reduce triglycerides
Slow the development of plaque in the arteries
Reduce the chance of abnormal heart rhythm
Reduce the likelihood of heart attack and stroke
Lessen the chance of sudden cardiac death in people with heart problem
In the past 10 years, many Americans have turned to omega-3 fish oilsupplements, which have benefits for healthy people and also those with heart problem. Fish oil contains two main types of omega-3 fatty acids: docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). DHA keeps the brain functioning properly. And EPA greatly benefits skin by regulating oil production increase hydration, prevent acne, and by delaying the skins aging process to stave off wrinkles. Most of us dont get enough omega-3s in our diets oily fish like mackerel, herring, salmon, anchovies, and tuna are the best sources so its a good idea to take a supplement. If you are pregnant or nursing, talk to your doctor before adding a supplement to your diet. Probably, there are certain techniques which have been considered for overcoming this point of view. It has been noticed that people who consume fish on regular basis possess inefficient chances of the development of atrial fibrillation. Omega-3 fatty acids include eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) which are said to be enriched in oily fish & certain other meals which involve eggs and fish oil supplements.
According to the recent reports, it has been noticed that there are about 3000 senior people who have been diagnosed with superior levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the levels of blood. The proportions of omega-3 is said to vary in the variety of the fishes that are available. Though there has been 30% reduction of the risk, it has been noticed that there have been some people with the development of such fatal conditions. The proper proportions of DHA levels are said to be associated with about 23% of the reduction of the risk of such fatal occurrences whereas, on the other hand, EPA & DPA have not shown any beneficial results. DHA is said to reside in the cell membranes of the heart.
Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids: They are necessary for human health. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fish, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut, other seafood including algae and krill, some plants, and nut oils. Also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), omega-3 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function, as well as normal growth and development. They have also become popular because they may reduce the risk of heart problem. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends eating fish (particularly fatty fish such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon) at least 2 times a week or take Omega supplements.
High cholesterol
People who follow a Mediterranean style diet tend to have higher HDL or “good” cholesterol levels, which help promote heart health. Inuit Eskimos, who get high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids from eating fatty fish, also tend to have increased HDL cholesterol and decreased triglycerides (fats in the blood). Several studies have shown that fish oil supplements reduce triglyceride levels. Finally, walnuts (which are rich in alpha linolenic acid or ALA, which can convert to omega-3s in the body) have been reported to lower total cholesterol and triglycerides in people with high cholesterol levels.
High blood pressure
Several clinical studies suggest that diets rich in omega-3 fatty acids lower blood pressure in people with hypertension. An analysis of 17 clinical studies using fish oil supplements may reduce blood pressure in people with untreated hypertension. Doses this high, however, should only be taken under the direction of a physician.
Depression
Studies have found mixed results as to whether taking omega-3 fatty acids can help depression symptoms. Several studies have found that people who took omega-3 fatty acids in addition to prescription antidepressants had a greater improvement in symptoms than those who took antidepressants alone. Other studies show that omega-3 fatty acid intake helps protect against postpartom depression, among other benefits.
