Being offered on this auction is
decorative oval six-cigarette ashtray made by Herend,
Hungary, in
‘Bouquet de Tulipe’ pattern. Collector sources often refer to this pattern
as ‘Printemps’ (‘Spring’ in French). The dominant feature of the Bouquet de
Tulipe pattern is the bouquet of flowers, composed of a delicately curving
striped tulip, red and yellow roses, chrysanthemums, dahlias, bluebells and
forget-me-nots, all painted with soft brushstrokes, and thrown into
striking relief by a band of bright green leaves. The whole composition
suggests a mood of springtime and freshness, further enhanced by the small,
scattered flowers on the gilded border. This decoration has remained one of
Herend’s most popular designs since the 1930s. Ashtray on this auction has
white background and gold band. The backside is marked with standard Herend
blue mark used since 1949. Other marking is mold number 7793/BT and number
64 in blue as well as incised ‘Herend’ and 7793.
Ashtray measures about 4 ¼” x 5 ¼”. Condition is immaculate
with no cracks or chips found. Colors are bright and vibrant. Gold has no
wear. Please take a look at the pictures to find out more about this item.
