Rörstrand

Gunnar Nylund

Zenit (Zenith) Pitcher Vase

Being offered on this auction is beautiful pitcher or vase made by Rörstrand of Sweden.  Famous artist Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) designed this high quality modernist art pottery piece. He was originally from Denmark and was trained as architect. He worked for Rörstrand from 1930 until 1958 as leading designer and Artistic Director. He developed most famous Scandinavian modern art style and influenced other artists, particularly Carl Harry Stålhane. Vase on this auction is in ‘Zenit’ (Zenith in English) line. It has gorgeous simple proportional shape with wider opening on the top and small round handle. It is of a typical for Nylund dark solid harsh background. In this case it is a variation of green, rather close to turquoise.  It is decorated from two sides with engraved ornament illustrating a sun standing in zenith. This ornament has white spots imitating how bright the sun in zenith is. Vase is glazed. Looks splendid. It is signed with standard Rörstrand triple crown mark on backside dating production of late 50s. Other marking is number 5 on the backside – this is a number in Zenith series of object.

Vase measures approximately 4 ½” in diameter and stands 8 ½” tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks, chips or crazing found. Colors are bright and vibrant. Please take a look at the pictures to find out more about this vase.
