Michael Joseph, London, 1971. Hardcover. First UK printing. Blue boards. With a line of the copyright notice blacked out as it was on many copies. Dust jacket flap price intact. Basis of the film by Gordon Parks starring Richard Roundtree as a black private detective in Harlem, with its Oscar-winning theme song by Isaac Hayes. Beginning of the "blaxploitation" films of the 1970s. There were sequels. Nice copy of the uncommon British edition of this modern crime novel classic. Also remade in 2019 with the coolest mutha in Hollywood Samuel L. Jackson.
