One of
the World’s Great Board Games
Chinese chess, xiangqi,
is one of the most popular board games of all time. From the same roots as the
Western “international” chess, it proves to be surprisingly dynamic and poses
unique challenges – with combinations and intricacies not found in other chess
forms.
Easy to Learn with Familiar Pieces
Perhaps the greatest
learning challenge for non-Chinese players is the simple lack of familiarity
with the Chinese characters, which identify the pieces in a standard Chinese
set.
Here, where standard chessmen are used, this problem is immediately alleviated,
and the new player can at once attend to the challenges and joy of the game.
Although the player will have to learn the unique features that make Chinese
chess so exciting, the convenience of familiar pieces goes a long way in bringing
the concepts home, making the game engaging from the very beginning.
Very Good Tournament
Quality
The chessmen are
tournament standard, made so solid plastic with a 3¾ inch tall king.
The traditional Chinese playing mat is approximately 20 x 18 inches.
These pieces may be used to play standard chess as well, on a standard size
chessboard (not included)
Rules included in English
This set comes with a
clear 4-panel rule booklet in English. The rules of play are laid out very
well, with illustrations and explanations of everything needed to play.
