Tricolor Melanocrater

Amazing tri-coloured leaves

Indigo Flowers

Grows up to 30cm in diameter and 25cm in height

Airplants are easy to keep species that do not require soil to grow.  They are also known as Tillandsias, or Tillys and there are many varieties within the range.  They come in all shapes and sizes and by adding differing species to your collection you can create a unique and varied feature for your home.

Airplants grow without soil, making them incredibly easy to keep, they require spraying with water (preferably rainwater) every day or two, and a fertiliser on a weekly basis, and they will flourish.  They can be mounted using specialist glue to wood, rocks and shells or combined with decorative features such as reindeer moss, or spanish moss.

The Melanocrater species will have three colours along the leaves as it matures, hence the name Tricolor - the colours will be green, canary yellow and cherry red.  It will flower with indigo petals.  This species will have stiff long leaves.  The species will grow to about 30 cm in diameter and 25cm in  height when mature, and enjoys bright light and humidity to maximise the colour changes.

Biotope Aquatics has one of the largest selections of air plants and accessories in the UK. Please see our shop for plant species, fixatives and a huge selection of Mopani and other exotic woods to attach them too.

Air plants are ideal for naturalistic bioactive vivariums or simply used as an attractive home decoration.

Please Note: Photos show example of the plants available, plants will not be in flower at time of dispatch but will flower when mature, given correct care and attention.  Red colouration may vary on the plants at time of dispatch due to the colour change being seasonal for the species.  Locating the plants in high humidity will develop the red colouration of the plants.

Plants range in size dependant on the individual species, size details for each species are in the listing detail above.  We cannot guarantee exact shape, size or number of spikes on the plant.  The plant you receive will develop, flower and pup assuming correct care and attention. To achieve maximum redness in red species tillandsia, the plants need to be grown in high humidity.
