"Rommel? Gunner Who? A Confrontation in the Desert", published in 1976 in Great Britain in paperback by Penguin Books, 208pp, ISBN 0140041079

Condition Notes: Wholly intact & readable 1976 Penguin paperback with some light foxing to the covers and some rubbing and creasing to the cover edges and corners. The bottom right corner on the front cover is showing the most crease lines. There's a small 1.5cm rip to the hinge between the spine and the back cover near the bottom edge. The internal pages are clean & tidy, but there is some mild foxing to them (a tanning or browning effect that occurs in some papers and which deepens as they age). A very decent copy overall, with plenty of life left in it

About this book: This is Spike Milligan's 2nd volume of war autobiography, published in 1974, with Jack Hobbs as editor. The book spans events from January to May 1943 in the 2nd World War, during Operation Torch - the allied invasion of Morocco and Algeria and the Tunisia Campaign. There is the usual mix of fact interspersed with fake, humorous letters and fake records of phone calls. There are contemporary photographs and non-contemporary steel engravings and illustrations. It also includes excerpts from diaries, letters and rough sketches, along with absurd memoranda from Nazi officials (sometimes humorously referred to as Hitlergrams). A map is included. The reader should exercise immense caution when reading the book as to exactly what actually happened (and is genuine) and what didn't (and isn't!)
