What is a batik and how do you care for it?
Areas of the cloth are blocked out by hot wax and the cloth is then dyed. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour. This process is repeated for each colour.
You can iron a batik to remove any creases, but the wax will temporarily melt, so it is important to press it between sheets of clean material or paper as the wax will mark the ironing board cover.
