Lithium Battery Safety

 There is a lot of media coverage of battery fires with E-Scooters, so are lithium golf batteries safe?

Firstly, our batteries are LiFePO4 and not NCM (give them a Google to see the differences) and this makes a huge difference to safety and how long the battery will last.  Secondly,  all of our batteries have a BMS inside (Battery Management System) which controls the charging from the charger through to the cells.  This BMS is not present in the E-Scooters etc that are catching fire.  These use very cheap chargers to directly charge the cells.

It is the charging cycle that is the point at which such issues can happen, never in the discharge phase, unless of course the battery was damaged in some way.  Our BMS also has two TCO’s (Thermal cut out) modules in every battery.  These are fuses that will stop any supply going into the cells if the internal temperature of the battery were to reach 65C (the temperature of a hot radiator in your home). 

I am pleased to say that, in the 10 years we have been selling these batteries,  we have never had a fire and we have never had a thermal fuse blow.
