Description: Here are clear instructions on all the problems of painting and wallpapering, with suggested techniques that will give you a long-lasting, good-looking, professional job.  This brook explains exactly how to do the job and gives you tips on paint, finish, and equipment to use.

On brushes and other applicators, you are told how to select a brush (it pays to buy a good one), including size and type of bristles, and you learn all about applicators, including the new fuzzy mittens, plastic foam pads, power-fed rollers, and more.  On paints, there is a discussion of the pros and cons of latex, when to use it and when to use oil base, how to pick a floor finish, how to pick a primer.  On preparing the surface, you learn how to seal knots, fill cracks, remove loose paint, and how to handle new wood, metal. and masonry.  On applying paint, techniques are described for every kind of paint, surface and applicator, along with information on how to paint ceilings, walls, doors, windows, trim; where to start painting; how to prevent lap and brush marks; how thick to lay on the paint.

The book has separate sections on painting the outside of the house (with lots of tips on how to make it easier, including an effective one-side-a-year plan), on painting the interior, on refinishing floors.  There is an extremely valuable section on use of color.

On wallpapering, there's everything, step-by-step (the only trick to this tricky job is knowing exactly how to do it).  You get instructions for preparing the wall (wallpaper sticks to most anything except high-gloss enamel, old style casein paint and calcimine, but you'd better condition the wall if you think you'll ever want to get the paper off), on figuring how much paper you'll need, on cutting, matching, pasting, coping with corners and irregular shapes, getting the paper on straight, and more.

Throughout the book, you get how-to pictures that make these easy-to-follow techniques even easier.
