Field Bindweed is is a climbing very deep-rooting plant with a vigorous root system that extends to a considerable distance and is very hard to eradicate from the soil. It belongs to the closely related genera Convolvulus and Calystegia and it was actually introduced in to North America in the early 18th century as an ornamental and probably for its medicinal properties too.
This Arable herb is collected from wild stocks all year round. The bindweed is then air dried and cut. The bindweed contains resin components with glycoretins, these are glycosides of hydroxy fatty acids. Other ingredients in arable herb are tannins and flavonoids
This herb is highly nutritious as it has rich contents of starch & sugars. However, this herb should not be consumed on a regular basis since it may have a laxative effect. Medicinally, bindweed is taken in three different forms: decoction, powdered rootstock & juice.
