This original, first edition book presents a comprehensive history of the Battle of Pilot Knob, Missouri, which occurred on September 27, 1864, and of the operations immediately preceding and following it.Peterson and Hanson wrote the first and perhaps best study on the Battle of Pilot Knob. It begins with the origin of Price's Raid and the march toward Pilot Knob. It then covers the battle in great detail from the first skirmish to the final battle at Leasburg, including the Union retreat and Confederate chase. Many interviews from officers, those enlisted on both sides, and citizens of the area are used to tell the story.
As the Civil War was drawing to a close, former Missouri governor Sterling Price led his army on one last desperate campaign to retake his home state for the Confederacy, part of a broader effort to tilt the upcoming 1864 Union elections.

This original, first edition, antique book is in nice overall condition, but has some shipping to the spine tips and edge. The book was published by The Neale Publishing Company in 1914. The exterior is clean and the gold, spine lettering remains bright. The exterior has no bumping.The interior is clean and the pages are in excellent condition. There isn’t a mark in the book; it has no writing, smudging, foxing, stamps or pasteboards. It is not an ex-library book. The book has solid binding throughout and both hinges are fine. 324 pages.
