Original antique copperplate engraving by Thomas Jefferys with finely detailed portraits of Anne, Princess of Orange and Nassau, and William, Prince of Orange and Nassau, Stadtholder of the Seven United Provinces of the Netherlands.

  • William is shown in profile facing left wearing the sash and badge of the Order of the Garter and holding a heavy staff of office in his right hand.

  • Anne is also shown in profile. She is wearing a low-cut bejewelled dress, possibly her wedding dress, with jewels in her hair and a diamond necklace.

  • At the center of the engraving, beneath the two portraits is the motto of the Order of the Garter:  "Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense"(Shame on him who thinks evil of it), supported by two lions.

  • The image size of the engraving is 10.7 x 18.6 cm [4¼" x 7¼"], and it is signed in the lower corner by Thomas Jefferys.

  • Condition:  It is in excellent condition, bright and clean, printed on a laid paper with no marks, rips, or tears. It is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.

  • This is an original, authentic antique engraving, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine.

  • It was published in the mid-18th century, after the couple's wedding (1734) and likely before William's death (1751).

  • It is evidently from a book or one of the monthly magazines published in London at the time, but its exact source and date is not shown.

  • London engraver Thomas Jefferys was the Geographer to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. Jefferys had a print shop at the corner of St. Martins Lane near Charing Cross, and many of the maps and illustrations he engraved are today found in libraries and distinguished collections around the world.
