BAUHAUS CHESSMEN
THE CLASSIC MODERN ART DESIGN
KING = approx. 2 inches
INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION

These beautifully geometric chessmen are based on the famous design by Joseph Hartwig.
Strictly following the 'form follows function' ideal, the pieces suggest their moves and piece status by their actual size and shape.

A MODERN CLASSIC

Several chess designs came out of the Bauhaus school of modern art in the early 20th century. Best known is this one, with pieces reverted to the most simple possible shapes, creating a transparent relationship between the objects themselves and their functions in the geometrical game of chess.

The king of this set stands approximately 2 inches tall.

IN STURDY BOX. BOARD NOT INCLUDED

Note that this set comes with a high quality heavily constructed slide-top box.
There is no board included with these chessmen. It recommended that they be played on a board of 1½
 to 2 inch squares

PRACTICAL FOR PLAY

The intuitive design of these pieces makes them very natural to modern players. Just setting these chessmen up and playing with them, it becomes strikingly apparent that they fall into the themes and strategies of serious chess play seamlessly, with an ease rarely seen in alternative chess sets. If you have played with unusual figurative pieces, or oddly designed chessmen, we expect that you will be surprised at how naturally this set falls in line with the well-known concepts of chess; it is truly a masterful creation.

INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION

These chessmen are made by an Indian company with no direct ties to the original Bauhaus school -- except the excellent design itself.
