Vintage
large-format fold-out
1942 Texaco road map of New York and Pennsylvania,
printed more than 78 years ago.
- The map opens to 24" x 32"
and has great detail on old highway alignments, with
cartography by
Rand McNally.
- The map of New York is on one side, with an inset of Long
Island.
- Pennsylvania is on the other side, with an inset of New
Jersey.
-
The map was published by Texaco in 1942 and is
dated by the code number in the lower margin: X.4216. Population data
is from the
1940 census, and the gasoline tax rates are shown as of May 2, 1942.
- The front cover has the code A-42 and the wartime
message: "Paper is Precious! Please do not throw this map away."
- Condition: The map is in very good, lightly used
condition. There's a neat rubber-stamp imprint from a Texaco garage in
Weatherly, Pennsylvania, and a couple of tiny chips have been mended
with archival tape. Please see
the scans and
feel free to ask any questions.
