This original, first edition book presents a report of the engineer and artillery operations of the Army of the Potomac from the start of the Civil War up to the close of the Peninsular Campaign, by the respective Chief of Engineers and Chief of Artillery for the Army.
The book contains 22 reports of various engineering and artillery actions of Union Officers. The book focuses on these two important combat support functions in detail, but also contain provides context within the campaigns and battles in which they operated. The boo includes all 18 large lithographed folded maps and plans in the back of the book (uncommon).
THIS BOOK IS IN FINE - CONDITION
This original, first edition, antique book is in excellent condition. It comes protected in a clear, Mylar dust jacket to help keep it that way (see photo #3). The book is handsomely presented, in bright, red, textured covers; with lined, decorative highlights; bright, gold lettering on the spine; and a bright, gold engineer and artillery branch insignia surrounded by a floral wreath on the cover. The gold lettering and image are exceptionally bright. The book has solid binding throughout; it has no looseness or lean and both hinges are fine. The exterior is clean and bright; it has one lightly bumped corner. The exterior has no rubbing, but has a touch of wear to the spine tips. Overall, it’s a sharp, bright, clean book. The interior is clean and the pages are in excellent condition. The book has no writing, smudging, foxing, stamps, pasteboard or other markings. It is not an ex-library book. The end pages are on brown paper. The pages are of sturdy, stock paper. The book contains a full page, full color frontispiece illustration and is 18 illustrations, battle maps and plans; all maps and plans are present and in nice condition (uncommon). The book contains 230 pages, plus the 18 illustrations, maps and plans, plus an additional 8 pages of publisher advertisements for other military and tactics books. Overall this is an excellent condition, handsome, original, first edition history of engineer and artillery operations in the Army of the Potomac.
