An estate find here is this vintage stein with a heavy pewter lid top.  The design reminds me of Scandinavian rosemaling or Germany design. .  I believe it to be either ironstone or heavy porcelain (like restaurant dishes), which one I am not certain.  This is a substantial piece...nothing flimsy in either the stein body or the pewter.  Just look at the sturdy hinge on this piece.  It is not marked so I do not know who manufactured it.  My guess is that it is Germany but I just don't know.

This dates back to the 1950's.  It stands approx. 6 1/2" to the top of the pewter knob.  This piece was filthy when I got it but I cleaned it up and carefully checked it out.  There are no cracks or chips and the pewter is in very good condition with no dents on top.  There is a line around the interior of the pewter lid from where it sits on the mug. I only note it for full disclosure.  The heavy pewter hinge is also in great shape.  The lid fits the top of the stein well.
