Offered is a wonderful set of five fixed Japanese fans from about 1890-1910. These occasionally come on eBay (there are two now) but rarely in this kind of condition. There is some wrinkling of the silk on one fan (see photo) but otherwise these fans are in overall excellent condition, without browning or otherwise evident damage. They are very fragile, and for this reason I have left them in the case and not disturbed them. These fans were bought about fifteen years ago from a collector of Japanese antiques who lived in central New Jersey. In the interim I have yet to come across examples anywhere near as nice as these.

A great prize for the photo collector,  fan collector or collector of unusual expressions of Japanese culture. Fans that are damaged and could be characterized as only in fair shape are priced on eBay for $60 or more dollars each. These are in exceptional condition given their age.
