SAY Viking, Norse, Norman, Saxon Tunic | Brown + Gold Trim | Short Sleeve, 100% Cotton

•••

Great design for men and women. Typical of the Vikings,  this authentically styled shirt features decorative ribbon and half sleeves. 100% pure cotton breathes in Summer and wicks away moisture to help keep you cool. Re-enactors will appreciate the authenticity and details like keyhole neckline, decorative trim on neck and sleeves, and texture in the weave of the fabric. See close-up photos for details.

Like many of the styles from Get Dressed For Battle (GDFB) & SAY this shirt is historically accurate and has a beautiful hand-made look. See the web site 'Hurstwic, LLC - Research and Training in Combat Methods of the Viking Era';

The tunic was pulled on over the head. There were usually no fasteners, although some tunics had a simple button and loop of thread to fasten the neck opening. A keyhole neckline was the most common, although many other shapes were used for the neck opening for both men and women. Tunics of all but the poorest people were decorated with braid, at least on the neckline and cuffs. The tunics of the more wealthy were also decorated with a braid woven from brightly colored wool using a tablet weaving technique.

Comments: This is tunic I wear for special occasions at HEMA events and at Renaissance Fairs - very attractive, on men and women, plus it looks completely authentic. Altogether well made, good materials, hand-woven in India. I ordered one of similar style made in China 100% polyester and there's no comparison. I recommend hand wash in cool water, or just take it down to the river and beat it on the rocks every Spring. I'm a collector and a weekend warrior. I sell what I own and can recommend.
