Because of that he offended the San Francisco bluenoses often and more than once was hauled before a judge. He believed sex appeal was "human appeal". "The true nude," he said, "gives a version of beauty both physical and spiritual - two great needs of humanity." One thing that gives his photos a unique antique look is the fact that he always had is models in twenties style bobbed coiffures.
