Offering an original vintage Photogravure of a Dr. F. Ahlfeld photo "Ice Cavern near the Fabulosa Mine" 1931.  This sheet fed gravure was printed in Germany. The image is 8.5x6.5" and is professionally wax tissue heat mounted on 11x14" acid free conservation board, suitable for framing and display. It is a standard frame size, for "ready made" or custom framing. This is a vintage photogravure and not a modern reproduction.

Dr. F Ahlfeld was a German geologist, mountain climber, and photographer, who at one point emigrated to Bolivia, South America and continued his work.

A photogravure is the most sophisticated of the photomechanical printing processes. The image isn't made in a darkroom. Rather, the photographer's negative is transferred onto a copper plate, which is used to print or engrave the image with ink. Photogravures have a very sensual, almost velvety quality, and were far superior to alternative photomechanical processes of the time. Vintage Photogravures are very collectible and a way to enjoy vintage photography.
