Leopold Reutlinger (1863-1937) was a French photographer born in Peru, who came to Paris in 1883 to help in his father's photo studio. He took it over in 1890 and by the early 1900s the rich and the famous held him the highest esteem, requesting him whenever a professional photo was needed. He continued very successfully until 1930 when he lost an eye in an accident with a champagne cork forcing him into retirement.

Sidome Gabrielle Colette (aka Colette) 1873-1954 was a French novelist and performer. She was a controversial figure throughout her life, with three marriages and multiple affairs with both men and women. But above all she was a free spirit, talented writer and passionate lover. She is most famous for the novel "Gigi" which was the basis for the Lerner and Loewe stage and film musicals of the same name. Reutlinger shot a series of photos with her.
