Born in Boston and raised in Montreal, veteran bluesman Jay Sewall’s seventh album, Payin’ My Dues - 50 Years of Blues, covers the entire expanse of his recording career. A master of the Mississippi saxophone (blues harmonica) and engaging vocalist-guitarist-songwriter Sewall was the first bluesman to play at the Montreal International Jazz Festival back in 1983. In 2008 he received the Lys Blues Lifetime Achievement Award (“Hommage” 2008 Gala Lys Blues) and continues to perform full-time in every corner of Quebec and occasionally in Europe and the United States. Songs from this new album exemplify his story-telling (Blues from Chicago), great harmonica (Motor City Blues and Jay’s Boogie Woogie) and even a lament – Quebec Blues for Bob Walsh and Gilles Sioui – two friends and local bluesmen whom recently passed away. This album is definitely the best in blues!
