This is a Museum Quality Enamel on Copper Bonbonnière, Patch Box or Snuff Box in the form of Love Birds. The extraordinary bird form box is from the collection of the Indianapolis Museum Of Art. The Bonbonierre is most likely Bilston Battersea or South Staffordshire England and dates to circa 1780. The box is in the shape of two entwined love birds. The two birds are enameled with magnificent design. One bird is primarily blue, the other yellow. On the bottom is an enamel picture of birds in a nest and on a perch in a pastoral background. The enamel work on the box is of the highest quality and is absolutely gorgeous with fabulous design and wonderful colors. This is one of the finest figural bonbonierre patch boxes we have seen and so rare to be in the form of two love birds. The bottom of the box is separated from the top. The box is 2 1/4 inches (5.5 cm) tall and is 2 inches (52mm) wide. The interior has Museum numbers as well as a date estimate of 1780. The top is separated from the bottom.
