Kiradashi

Hand made Japanese marking knife that is used for whittling, chamfering, carving and marking. Especially good for reaching into fine deep joints for marking scribe lines and the like.

The blade is made from White Steel.

This kiradashi is right handed but I also have a right handed version in a separate listing (photo 6).

Shozo Ikeuchi became an apprentice sword smith in 1945 and setup his own forge in 1953. In 1970 he and his sons decided to specialize in the making of kitchen, woodworking and gardening knives. The modern workshop is graced with three generations of smiths from Ikeuchi senoir, his son Hisanori and grandsons Hirokazu and Hiromi. Techniques employed range form the completely traditional to the use of more modern machinery. They use traditional white steel and modern engineered alloys such as No. 2 Blue Steel.

I'm in the process of listing a range of 24 knives made by Ikeuchi which include woodworking, marking and grafting knives. This is the third.

The last photo is from a box of tools I opened just the other day. Check out my other listings for a range of tools, specialty woods and other cool stuff.

Brand New 23-9A

Quality tool at an economical price reflects that. Personally I prefer white steel to Blue steel which is more expensive.

Postage

I take the time and care to individually wrap the kanna blade and dai in newspaper and then in bubble wrap and/or cardboard. I want your items to arrive safely so I take the time to protect them before I send them to you.

Ebay charges a 10% fee on postage. PayPal charges 0.3%+$0.3 fee on postage. That means that a prepaid satchel costs me $13.8 + $1.4 + $0.7 = $15.9 Not including any packaging materials or the like. So its better for you and for me if you buy a bunch of stuff at the same time :)

Combined Postage

I can and do combine postage. BUT you must request an invoice before paying. For some reason Ebay no longer allows partial refunds to amend postage costs.

My standard policy re combined postage for a batch of items that is in total less than 5kg is that the most expensive postage item sets the base rate. Half price postage on the next most expensive item 3rd price postage for the third and quarter price postage thereafter.  I also list a bunch of small items as "free postage with any other paid post item" but only if you give me the chance to amend the postage by requesting an invoice before paying. If you do pay without requesting an invoice then I will send you a message with a discount voucher on your next purchase.

Most of the items I'm selling weigh less than 500g which costs about $9 to post. Almost all the rest weigh less than 3kg which costs about $13. If you are buying just one item that can add a fair bit to the cost. So it's much more economical to buy a bunch of stuff.

International Bidders.

Happy to send items anywhere in the world BUT you must pay for registered postage with tracking. I've had a number of buyers opt for cheaper postage without tracking and they have then had items not arrive. So in future I will only be posting items with tracking.

What I'm doing....

Check out my latest stuff on You Tube just search for "Chestnut_nag's Tools From Japan" or "Mad Scientist Prospecting".

I get a box or two a month of tools from Japan or Europe (mostly Japan at the moment). I'm doing this mostly as something to keep myself busy and to fund my hobby/addiction (tools). At present I am the full time carer for my disabled son. That means that sometimes I won't be able to answer your questions as quickly as you or I would like. It may also mean that I might take a little longer to post your items. When life is crazy and "interesting" I can't answer questions and I can't get to the post office. I also can't let you know because when things are bad I'm too busy dealing with Doctors and stuff. So if it takes a while for your item to be posted please understand its because things are not going well and I'm busy looking after my son and myself. Family first.

When he is well I can normally get stuff posted within a day of payment.
