Hungarian medals and badges from their Socialist period are always high in quality and information on them is usually elusive. medals that came from the "Happiest Barrack in the Warsaw Pact" where quite unique as the award usually came in a set of two in a box (one small one to wear, and one large one for mounting or display). unlike the USSR, Hungary did not make medals and badges for every tiny aspect of life...so they could afford to make there awards with a higher budget and more attention. badges are welded together, and enamel work is pristine.

This is an award for a Kivalo Dolgozo ("Perfect Worker"). this is a labor award similar to a winner of the Socialist Emulation Contests of the USSR.  With this variation, the suspension is heavy pewter with white enamel, and the medallion is a two-part assembly made of steel. the medal is 2 1/4" by 1 1/2". some great patina to the right of the coat of arms. if there are any questions, i will do my best to answer.

If you are curious as to what makes this special, look at the coat of arms centered in the star. this was the crest of the PRH during the leaderships of Rakosi Matyas and Nagy Imre. once Kadar Janos was made general secretary of the Communist Party in 1956, the emblem became a less "symbolic" emblem. this medal is available in several variations (depending on the involved trade), but the two main versions are this red plastic star and also an all silver version. the most precious is the the "Stakhonovite" version.
