An antique 1.25 inch wide wood block round nose shaper / planer with a steel stop plate and a single cast steel blade. The cast steel blade still has and will hold a sharp cutting edge.

With a body made of hardwood, this wonderfully made item still feels good in the hands and (once you get into the rhythm), it feels amazingly satisfying as it shapes the board.

We recommend practicing your technique on a few pieces of scrap wood before working on your final piece. It's a whole lot different that using a modern electric router with shaper bits! 😀

As there are no maker's marks on either the body of the planer nor on the iron (i.e. the cast steel cutting blade). Based on the design and overall looks of this plaber, WE ARE GUESSING that this was made sometime between the 1850s and 18870s, but we could be wrong; it is possible it was made as late as the 1910s.look at the phptos and decide for yourself! And if you have any better information on this piece, please let us know and we'll update this post as appropriate.

Condition is Very Good Used. This hand tool is over 100 years old and still shaves and shapes wood like new. There is evidence of solid use and loving care.
