LANCASTER HEAVY BOMBER 'GOMORRAH' VINYL DECAL

Outdoor Vinyl Sticker Decal

Watermarks do not appear on actual product.

The most iconic and infamous bomber of the commonwealth forces in World War 2, The Avro Lancaster has become

synonymous with the Canadian aerial war effort.

So much so in fact that of only two left in flying condition, Vera ( VR-A, FM213 ), resides in Hamilton, Ontario. Our decal features the painted nacelle 'Tiger Shark' mouths of N0.419 Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Force.

Although used sparingly in it's first year, 1942, July 1943 saw the devastating debut of the Lancaster's ferocity 'En Masse'. The Battle of Hamburg saw a planned 7 Days and 7 nights of raids on the city with 353 Avro Lancasters participating. Codenamed Operation: Gomorrah - after the biblical verse of Genesis:

'Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire out of the heavens'

It was the heaviest aerial assault in history up to that point. With 9,000 tons of Explosives and Incendiaries dropped, it wrought destruction un-paralleled until Hiroshima and Nagasaki two years later.

On top of disrupting and destroying local lines of communication and travel, the operation crippled the region destroying 10 percent of the man-power, 183 large production facilities and 4,118 smaller factories.

The civilian casualties will never be known, such is the cost of cruel and total war.
