Vintage “MADE IN JAPAN” Regency Period Man, with Pointer Dog Figurine Tree Trunk Ashtray/Planter
Ultra Rare: Only one like it available online (at time of listing creation).
Hand painted porcelain ashtray or ash receptacle figurine made in 1940’s Japan. Figurine features a man with hairstyle & dress from the Regency era (early - mid 1800s) and his canine companion. Man is dressed in tailcoat & pantaloons. Dog is an English Pointer, with white coat and black spots/markings. Regency man and his dog are depicted outdoors, a ball in the man’s hand, the dog poised to run and catch man’s next throw of the ball. A tree stump behind the two is hollow; its opening serves as an ashtray with two notches in the rim for holding lit cigarettes. Sun design in various places around the tree stump. This opening could also be used as a small planter or for toothpicks, matches, small trinket dish or for keys & change, etc. An extra glossy glaze finish gives this figurine a magnificent, almost iridescent shine. So unique and interesting—definitely a conversation piece!!! See condition below!
Dimensions: ~4” in height, ~3.25” in length, & ~3” in width.
Dimensions of Holder/Planter Only: ~2.25” in height & ~2.5” diameter of opening.
Condition: 2 minor blemishes: small chip on very bottom of dog’s (inward) hind leg/paw (closeup in top image of last photo) & shallow chip on backside bottom of tree stump (closeup in bottom image of last photo). Looks as though a precious owner of this piece may of used it as an ashtray (unsure exactly when this price was acquired, but it hasn’t been used for as least 10+ years)—there are a few small spots of minor nicotine staining that didn’t come out with warm water alone. I’m sure they’d come out with the proper solution (it says online to use rubbing alcohol or 15 minute soak with warm water+liquid detergent+white vinegar mixture). ABSOLUTELY NO CIGARETTE SMELL to this piece whatsoever!!! See pictures.
