Beautiful EKUK mask of the KWELE tribe from Gabon.

These masks are performed during the Bwete rituals. These are rituals to protect the village for bush spirits.

During the hunt, women and children stayed in the village; after one or two days, ekuk masks would “leave” the forest, enter the village, and invite the people to come dance and sing. Ekuk means both “protective forest spirit” and “children of beete.”

Beautiful hart shaped face, coffee bean eyes. Made with an eye for detail. Very nice decorated with white, red and brown kaolin.

Overall good condition, some age related wear and tear. Take a good look at the pictures.
