92 pp.  Hardcover in original cloth binding.  Gilt spine lettering is faded and bottom inch and top 1/2 inch of cloth is missing from the spine cover.  The remaining cloth on the spine is nearly detached, hanging on by one edge.  Corners are bumped, some rubbing on boards, which are loose and nearly detached.  The top corners of all pages, including the illustration plates, approx a 1/3 of each page, is stained by something that caused the paper to turn brown.  The upper half of approx. half of the pages, the the rear half, is damaged, either folded in or chipped away.  Nonetheless, an incredibly SCARCE Confederate imprint from Charleston, SC at the height of the war.


First, and only, edition, written by a Confederate artillery commander who introduced new guns made for him in Richmond. Dedicated to Stonewall Jackson only one month before he was mortally wounded by accidental fire of his own troops at Chancellorsville.
