HOPI-STYLE SUN, CLOUDS CUFF BANGLE BRACELET

This Cuff Bangle was handmade in the town of Taxco in Mexico. Taxco is world famous for its silverwork. Each piece is stamped to ensure that the quality is maintained at the highest levels.
The bangle is in the Hopi style. The Hopi are an Indian tribe in the southwest of the USA. This bangle wasn't made by Hopi Indians, it was made in Mexico using Hopi techniques. This process, known as overlay, involves cutting out the designs on a silver sheet. This sheet is then placed on another silver sheet & soldered together. The silver on the bottom sheet has been oxidized to make it black. The top sheet has a polished matt finish. The designs are easily visible because of the contrast between the black & silver colors.
There bangle has a sun in the center flanked by clouds. The sun and clouds are popular motifs in Native American jewelry.
The bangle is about 6.3"(16 cm) long. The width of the bangle is 0.5" - 0.9"(12 - 23 mm) approx. It is about 0.1"(2 mm) thick & weighs about 50 grams.
