Inclassable, irrévérencieux et surtout imprévisible, Fred Fortin ne cesse de se réinventer. De nouveau en solo après l’aventure décapante du groupe Gros Mené, en 1998, il revient sur Le Plancher des vaches avec un album folk trash aux textes très terre à terre, voire primaires. Ses chansons parlent de morpions ("Gaston"), d’érection ("Bandé dedans mon lit") ou de masturbation ("Chaouin"), mais aussi du temps qui fuit et de l’amour "qui trouve ça long". Le ton oscille entre l’indifférence et la dérision. Pourtant, même ces textes négligés, ces guitares approximatives et ces rythmes d’arrière-cour portent la marque d’un talent et d’une sensibilité hors du commun. Moins fignolé que Joseph Antoine Frédéric Fortin Perron, sorti en 1996, Le Plancher des vaches témoigne quand même d’une farouche indépendance d’esprit et d’une volonté de déranger que les fans de Plume Latraverse ou de Mononc’ Serge comprendront sans difficulté.
