"Oriental Theater" by Robert Benson

We are placing a number of works of art from our investment collection on sale. This piece is from artist Robert Benson. Watercolor on paper, unframed.

The painting is 14-1/4" x 7-1/2" Vertical.

There is no title for this piece (the title "Sun Worship" is ours). This is a work purchased from Mr. Benson in the late 1990s from a show of his work in Denver.  As a writer with my own company, I worked with Robert on commercial media production projects when he was the art director for Cimarron Productions. Robert later moved to California wine country where he specializes in landscapes, animals, and still-lifes in watercolor and acrylic.

From the theater's website: "The Oriental Theater serves as an anchor of the bustling Tennyson Art and Business District and serves the broad interests of Denver’s burgeoning cultural scene."

The Oriental is one of several early to mid 20th century neighborhood theaters in the Denver metro area that have been saved from the wrecking ball. It features a distinct look and cool terra cotta ornamentation.

It is now used for special events such as musical performances and film debuts.

This painting was featured in my mystery novel VOTE: A Vic Bengston Investigation where the protagonist found a key clue to solving the book's mystery.
