AN ABSOLUTELY EXTRAORDINARY AND VERY RARE MUSEUM QUALITY PORTRAIT MINIATURE BROOCH OF THE WRITER D.H. LAWRENCE, THE WRITER OF LADY CHATTERLY'S LOVER.  THE PORTRAIT IS A MASTERPIECE OF EARLY PORTRAIT MINIATURE PAINTING.  IT IS A GRISAILLE PORTRAIT - DONE IN SHADES OF BLACK AND WHITE.  THE WORKMANSHIP IS ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT.  THE PORTRAIT IS SET IN AN 18 KARAT GOLD REPOUSSE FRAME WITH ACANTHUS LEAF FORMS OF GREAT BEAUTY.   THE MINIATURE PORTRAIT IS TRULY A MASTERPIECE.  FROM THE LEGENDARY COLLECTION OF EDITH WEBER.  THE PORTRAIT DATES TO CIRCA 1915--1930.

It is extremely rare to find portrait brooches of literary figures and this is one of the finest.  A museum quality jewel.  

David Herbert Lawrence (11 September 1885 – 2 March 1930) was an English writer and poet. His collected works represent, among other things, an extended reflection upon the dehumanising effects of modernity and industrialisation. Jewelry from Edith Weber was worn on the red carpets of the Academy Awards and graced many major national magazines. Her store at The Carlyle was described as a historical jewel box with esoteric jewelry spanning the centuries. Her son, Barry Weber said "we are fearless in our taste," always searching for the rare and beautiful.

The portrait brooch is in excellent condition.  The gold tests for 18K. The brooch is 2 inches by 1 3/4 inches.   It weighs 17.3 grams.
