Coastal Gnome (https://www.ebay.com/str/coastalgnome) offers for your consideration:

Antique (1880s) dome top wheeled steamer Trunk with Alligator Leather exterior. Made by the W.C. Farel Company in Buffalo, NY, in the days when long distance travel took days, weeks or possibly even months, this sort of trunk was essential gear for anyone contamplating such a trip!

This is a beautiful example of late 19th / early 20th Century craftsmanship. With 4 steel casters / wheels; leather handles; a bent wood domed cover and the original decorative paper trim inside the top of the trunk, this is a piece that has been well cared for for over a century.

We do not know the exact date of manufacture for this lovely trunk, but based on the style, the little we know about the history of the W.C. Farel Company and other information we were able to find on steamer trunks in general,  WE ARE GUESSING THAT THIS WAS MADE BETWEEN THE 1880s AND 1910s, but we could be off by a decade or so on either end. So if you have any better information on this piece, please let us know and we'll update this post as appropriate.

Condition is Very Good, Used. All the original  hinges, latches and lid stays are intact and still fully operational.

The blue-colored, lacquered alligator skin exterior is in excellent condition, except for the edges where the lid closes over it; there the leather is worn - see the last photo included with this post for an example view of this issue.

The leather handles are both still attached, but have dried and are broken and should be replaced if you expect to use them. The fpur original steel wheels are still intact and fully operational.

The interior is clean and the wood has no cracks, splits, breaks or other issues. The exterior parts of the original lock are still in place, but the interior parts of the locking mechanism have been removed and lost, so it will have to be replaced if you need to lock this chest.
